Advanced Strategies for Profitable Sustainability: Key Takeaways from the MOSMOP Workshop at BAM 2024

Participants engaging in the MOSMOP workshop at BAM 2024 Conference, hosted by Nottingham Business School, led by Dr. Fatima Gillani and Prof. Xiao.

We had the pleasure of kicking off this year’s British Acedemy of Management (BAM) 2024 Conference at Nottingham Business School with an engaging and thought-provoking workshop titled “MOSMOP Evolved: From Conversation to Action – Advanced Strategies for Profitable Sustainability.” Delivered by Dr. Fatima Gillani and Prof. Xiao Ma, this workshop was a continuation of our ongoing efforts to redefine the relationship between sustainability and profitability, transforming them from competing priorities into synergistic goals.

As part of the British Council-funded MOSMOP (More Sustainable More Profitable) initiative, which began last year at the Centre for Business and Industry Transformation, this workshop built on the foundational discussions from last year’s BAM Conference. The focus was on moving from theoretical conversation to actionable strategies that businesses can implement to achieve both sustainability and profitability.

The session brought together a vibrant community of applied researchers, industry experts, and thought leaders who shared diverse perspectives on key topics such as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), industrial symbiosis, and the circular economy. It was an invaluable opportunity to disseminate our year-long analysis on MOSMOP and to discuss emerging business models that exemplify these principles.

A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished speakers who enriched the workshop with their expertise:

  • Dr. Muhammad Mazhar provided an insightful talk on carbon management strategies.
  • Professor Jie Chen offered a comprehensive perspective on MOSMOP’s application in China.
  • Xiao Ma led the dissemination of emergent business models.
  • Dr. Sönnich Sönnichsen shared practical applications of the circular economy.
  • Iryna Kuksa gave thought-provoking insights into the intersection of fast fashion, technology, and evolving narratives.

Their contributions were instrumental in advancing our understanding and highlighting innovative ways to integrate these concepts into actionable business strategies.

We are excited about the future of MOSMOP and look forward to continued collaboration and innovation as we work towards building more sustainable and profitable business models together. Here’s to making impactful strides in sustainability!

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this workshop a resounding success! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable business transformation.
