BeefTwin - £1.2M
Project to leverage AI and digital twin technology to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and bolster food security.
Funding Body: UK Research and Innovation
Project Collaborators: Kinnordy Estate, Goodbeef Index, NTU Home Farm, University of Sheffield, University of Exeter, Nottingham Business School, The Centre for Business & Industry Transformation
UKHAIC - £300K
CBIT helps researchers from the UKHAIC programme turn their work into ventures by using AI to accelerate commercialisation. AI is used to rapidly scan market opportunities, identify problem–solution fit, match partners and capabilities, and test / validate venture models. This enables researchers to move from research insight to investable, scalable venture propositions faster and with higher precision — reducing uncertainty, improving commercial readiness, and increasing real-world healthy ageing impact.
Funding Body: Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
Project Collaborators: University Industry Innovation Network, University of Leicester, Northumbria University, Nottingham Business School, The Centre for Business & Industry Transformation
AI Supply Chain KTP - £225K
CBIT enabled the BarberBoss AI project to turn both market intelligence and operational decision making into a scalable, repeatable, AI-powered venture engine. Instead of multi-day manual competitive research, fragmented data gathering, and intuition-led advertising and supply chain decisions, AI orchestration now delivers instant market sizing, sentiment extraction, competitor feature mapping, real-time stock visibility, probabilistic forecasting, and campaign performance insight — all in one integrated decision layer. This has reduced analysis time from days to hours, cut stock-out risk, improved advertising ROI, and strengthened negotiation power with suppliers, enabling BarberBoss to prioritise high-value categories, allocate investment with confidence, and move from gut-feel experimentation to evidence-led commercial scaling.

Project Collaborators: Barberboss, Nottingham Business School, The Centre for Business & Industry Transformation, CBIT Venture Builder
STEAM Venture Builder Empowerment - £492K
CBIT is delivering a “Train the Trainers” programme to strengthen the venture translation capability of Thailand’s top three universities — equipping knowledge exchange teams, science parks, entrepreneurship educators and commercialisation consultants with AI-enabled methods to design, validate and accelerate high-tech ventures. By embedding AI into opportunity discovery, market testing, partner matching and venture modelling workflows, this programme builds national capacity for evidence-based venture creation and ensures Thailand’s emerging deep tech commercialisation infrastructure can scale faster, with higher precision, and reduced translational risk.
Funding Body: British Council
Project Collaborators: Nottingham Business School (NBS), Centre for Business & Industry Transformation (CBIT), CBIT Venture Builder, Chiang Mai University’s Science and Technology Park (STeP), Mae Fah Luang University’s Institute for Innovation and Economic Development (MFii), International Network of Entrepreneurial Interdisciplinary Champions (INEIC), Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B).
MOSMOP - £160K
CBIT is leading a project to transform sustainability from a perceived cost burden into a strategic profit engine — using AI to analyse business sustainability data, detect high-leverage value levers, and generate more commercially viable MOSMOP business model configurations. AI enables rapid scenario modelling, impact-to-profit ratio evaluation, and “what-if” testing at scale, allowing organisations to identify configurations where environmental performance and economic returns reinforce each other rather than trade off. This accelerates the design of sustainability ventures that can attract investment, scale commercially, and deliver measurable environmental benefit simultaneously.

STEAM Founders Experiential Learning Programme - £50K
CBIT delivers venture building sprint-style training for STEAM founders in both Thailand and the UK — using AI-enabled venture design, market testing, and rapid validation techniques to accelerate the formation of investable opportunities. Through intensive, structured sprint cycles, founders rapidly iterate on problem definition, solution shaping, go-to-market logic and commercial model design, supported by AI analysis to reduce uncertainty and reveal highest-value pathways. This approach compresses the time from idea to validated proposition, enabling STEAM founders to move faster, de-risk earlier, and scale ventures with stronger evidence-based conviction.

Project Collaborators: Chaing Mai University, Chulalongkorn University, Nottingham Business School (NBS), Centre for Business & Industry Transformation (CBIT), CBIT Venture Builder
SME Engagement with Regional Procurement - £75K
CBIT is repositioning AICCM as a digital platform that enables construction SMEs across the East Midlands to navigate public procurement by using AI to map their capabilities to new tender opportunities. Instead of relying on manual interpretation of complex tender documentation, AICCM applies AI to analyse requirements, highlight feasibility, identify capability gaps, and surface strategically aligned opportunities and collaboration choices. This reduces friction, time burden, and uncertainty in bidding — enabling SMEs to convert public procurement into a scalable growth pipeline rather than a barrier to participation.
Funding Body: East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA)
Project Collaborators: SME Tender Hub, East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), Bolsover District Council, NTU School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, Centre for Business & Industry Transformation (CBIT), CBIT Venture Builder
SurplusMap: A City-Scale Digital Twin For Surplus Food Redistribution In London - £50K
CBIT is leading SurplusMap as a feasibility study to evaluate the viability of an AI-enabled digital twin for London that coordinates surplus food recovery and upcycling across the entire ecosystem. Using agentic AI to provide secure, dynamic, real-time visibility of edible and non-edible surplus flows, SurplusMap aims to reduce information asymmetry, support distributed decision-making, and incentivise collaboration between redistributors, processors, upcyclers, and new market actors. Additionally, the platform incorporates a personal data economy AI that integrates individual food consumption and waste data, allowing consumers to track their own surplus and waste patterns, contributing to a more efficient and responsive system. The study will assess the technical, economic, behavioural, and institutional conditions required to make this system viable — laying the foundations for a demonstrator platform that can convert surplus food into scalable circular value, support food insecurity reduction, and turn circular economy practice into an operational, AI-enabled urban infrastructure.
